LeakBot was born from a simple question: what if homeowners could detect hidden plumbing leaks before they turned into costly disasters? Today, we’re the world’s leading provider of claims prevention technology for home insurers.
The Beginning
Founded as the innovation arm of HomeServe PLC, Craig founded HomeServe Labs and was tasked with pioneering technologies that could transform the home services landscape. In 2015, their team identified a persistent and expensive pain point for insurers and homeowners alike—hidden micro-leaks in domestic plumbing systems, responsible for a significant percentage of household insurance claims.
The team set out to build a solution that was non-invasive, easy to install, and scalable for insurers. The result was LeakBot: a smart, IoT-enabled device that clips onto a homeowner's water pipe and uses patented technology to detect even the smallest hidden leaks.
The Breakthrough
Unlike other leak detectors, LeakBot doesn't require a plumber for installation or any complex integration. It pairs with an app, alerts the homeowner (and the insurer), and offers a direct route to fast repair - often through a pre-approved plumbing network.
After early pilots with UK insurers proved promising, LeakBot moved from lab to market, forming B2B partnerships with major insurance providers. The product demonstrated measurable reductions in claims costs and improved customer satisfaction - a win-win for insurers and their policyholders.
Going Independent
Recognising the broader potential, HomeServe Labs spun out this technology-led business into a standalone entity. In 2022, Ondo InsurTech PLC was formed and listed on the London Stock Exchange. This gave LeakBot a dedicated platform to scale internationally, attract capital, and sharpen its focus on becoming the world leader in home insurance prevention.
Today, Ondo partners with leading insurers across the UK, Nordics, and US. Its vision remains bold: to stop water damage before it starts, using smart, sustainable technology that benefits everyone - from insurers to homeowners to the planet.
